Brunswick Estonian Open 2020 Rules

Event: Individual bowling contest

During the contest, these rules and the existing rules of contest of the Estonian Bowling Association (EVML) and World Bowling will be followed. The contest is part of the Estonian bowlers’ rating system.

Right to participate and registration 

The players who accept these rules and the existing rules of contest of the Estonian Bowling Association (EVML) and have paid the contest fee, have the right to participate.
Contest fee:
Adults – 45 – 80 € depend on the chosen squad (see the schedule). Re-entry – rebate the normal fee 10 € (not applied for Early Bird)
Juniors – 45 €, re-entry 40 €.

Desperado squad fee 40 €.
Turbo games fee 15 € one game (G4 or G6) or 20 € two games (G4 and G6).

Registration begins on February 20, 2020 and ends 15 minutes before squads starting time.

Registration for re-entries: Up to three (3) registrations allowed.

Registration for clubs: the names of the players must be given at least one week before the beginning of the reserved squad.

Clothing during the contest: according to the rules of the World Bowling.

The organizer has the right to cancel a qualification squad if there are less that 12 registered players.

Contest description and ranking

Contest playing style: Cross-line

Qualification

Individual, 6 games, cross-line style, up to 4 players per lane pair. Change of lane after every game: bowlers on a lane with an even number move two lanes to the right and players on a lane with an odd number move two lanes to the left. Warm-up: 10 minutes on the starting lanepair. Equal scoring for men and women. Ranking is based on the points achieved. Women receive 8 pins handicap per game. Women handicap is considered as pin fall, and in case of a tie men get no advantage. Max women scratch game 300 pts.

Turbo

Valid only for athletes having paid the turbo fee before each turbo-game starting. Two separated Turbo standings will be provided:
One standing for game 4 (Turbo G4)
Second standing for game 6 (Turbo G6)

Desperado Squad

Desperado Squad, 1 game. Cross-line style, up to 4 players per lane pair. Ranking is based on the points achieved.

Composing top 48

In the final there will be 48 players, as follows:

Top 30 from the Qualification, seeded 1-30
Top 6 Estonians. who were not ranked among the top 30, seeded 31-36
Best B-Class player, seeded 37
Best C-class player, seeded 38
Best woman who was not ranked in the top 30, seeded 39
Best senior who was not ranked in the top 30, seeded 40
Top 1 from the Turbo G4, seeded 41
Top 1 from the Turbo G6, Seeded 42
Top 2 from the Desperado Squad, seeded 43-44.
Top 2 from the “Early Bird” squads 1-4, seeded as 45-46
Top 2 from the “Early Bird” squads 5-8, seeded as 47-48

Final step 1

Players seeded 17-48 will play 4 games starting from scratch. Cross-line style. Change of lane after every game: bowlers on a lane with an even number move two lanes to the right and players on a lane with an odd number move two lanes to the left. Warm-up: 10 minutes on the starting lanepair. Top 16 will continue to the final step 2.
Athletes not continuing will be ranked 33-48 according to their position in the final step 1.

Final step 2

The 16 players continue from the final step 1 and the players seeded 13 – 16 in the qualification will play 4 games, starting from scratch, Cross-line style. Change of lane after every game: bowlers on a lane with an even number move two lanes to the right and players on a lane with an odd number move two lanes to the left. Warm-up: 10 minutes on the starting lanepair. Top 12 of these players will continue to the final step 3. Players not continuing will be ranked 25-32 according to their position in the final step 2.

Seeding and matching for the final steps 3-7.

Players at positions 1 – 12 after the qualification will be seeded 1 – 12 for the next final steps. The 12 best players after the final step 2 will be seeded 13 – 24 for the next final steps, according to their position after final step 2. Matches for steps 3 – 7 will be combined: The highest seeded player before the final step 3 will play against the lowest seeded player, Cross-line style.

Final step 3

Top 12 players from the final step 2 (ranked 13 – 24) and the players seeded 9 – 12 in the qualification will play in pairs until two (2) victories, Cross-line style. Warm-up: 4 shots on both lanes. The 8 winners of the matches will continue to the final step 4. The 8 losers will be ranked 17-24 according to their seeding.

Final step 4

Top 8 players from the final step 3 (ranked 9 – 16) and the players seeded 1 – 8 in the qualification will play a match until two (2) victories. Warm-up: 4 shots on both lanes. The 8 winners of the matches will continue to the final step 5. The 8 losers will be ranked 9-16 according to their seeding.

Final step 5

Top 8 players from the final step 4  will play a match until two (2) victories. The 4 winners of the matches will continue to the final step 6. The 4 losers will be ranked 5-8 according to their seeding.

Final step 6

The winners of the final step 5 will play a match until two (2) victories. Warm-up: 2 shots on both lanes. The 2 winners of the games will continue to the final step 7. The 2 losers will be ranked 3-4 according to their seeding.

Final step 7

The winners of the final step 6 will play a match until one (1) victory. Warm-up: 2 shots on both lanes. The winner of the match is the winner of Brunswick Estonian Open 2019. The loser of the match will be ranked 2.

Tournament tie rules

Qualification and the final steps 1 and 2

In case of a tie the highest ranked player will be the one with the highest last game, then the second last, etc.

Turbo

In case of tie for the 1st position in the Turbo competition (separately for G4 and G6) the highest positioned athlete will be the highest positioned athlete after the qualification.

Desperado Squad

In case of a tie in the desperado squad the a one ball roll off on a full set of pins will be played, repeated until the tie is broken.

Final steps 3 – 7

In any case of a tie in any game in any match in the final rounds 3-7  a one ball roll off on a full set of pins will be played, repeated until the tie is broken.

Additional / Other rules

Junior – year of birth 2001 and later
Senior – year of birth 1969 and earlier
B-class – Players with official average from 165 to 179,9
C-class – Players with official average under 165
*If a player wishes to participate in these classes, he/she must be able to prove age or official average. Otherwise will participate only on main event.

A player cannot enter the desperado squad if he/she has not thrown the qualification squad. The turns of desperado squad cannot be reserved.

If a player wants to withdraw from a reserved squad, he/she must inform the tournament management about it at the latest 3 hours before the reserved squad. In the contrary case the player is liable to pay the fee corresponding his/her playing time.

Lane oiling will be performed before each squad, before final steps 1 and 3. Oiling pattern will be published at least 1 week before the beginning of the first squad of the contest.
